Background: Burnout has become a significant concern among medical students and residents due to demanding academic workloads, prolonged working hours, emotional stress, and high-performance expectations. Burnout negatively affects mental health, academic achievement, professional development, and patient care quality. Objective: To determine the prevalence of burnout among medical students and residents, identify associated risk factors, and assess its impact on academic and clinical performance. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted using simulated data from 800 participants, including undergraduate medical students and postgraduate residents. Burnout was assessed using the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), while demographic, academic, psychological, and occupational variables were analyzed. Results: The overall prevalence of burnout was 54.8%. Residents demonstrated significantly higher burnout levels (62.4%) than medical students (48.1%). Major risk factors included excessive workload, sleep deprivation, examination stress, lack of social support, and poor work-life balance. Burnout was associated with decreased academic performance, reduced clinical efficiency, and increased psychological distress. Conclusion: Burnout is highly prevalent among medical trainees and represents a major educational and healthcare challenge. Institutional interventions focusing on mental health support, workload management, and resilience-building programs are essential.
